Understanding what your investment allows CCC to do for NYC children:
Promote Economic Mobility: Severe inequality keeps hundreds of thousands of children living in poverty. Across NYC, Black and Latine children are twice as likely to experience poverty than their White peers. A gift of $75,000 or more could aid our advocacy for government action to support families’ financial security and upward economic mobility through Child and Earned Income Tax Credits (CTC), Universal Basic Income, wage policies, and more.
Increase Mental Health Care Access: Unmet mental health needs can have life-long consequences for children and families. 1 in 5 New York children have a mental health need, while half of youth with major depressive episodes in the past year did not receive any treatment. A gift of $50,000 or more could support our efforts to expand mental and behavioral health care access to youth and families, including investments that alleviate wait times for treatment and build a robust and sustainable workforce.
Support Housing Security for Families: New York City is facing a homelessness crisis, with 60% of those in shelter families with children and nearly 29,000 children sleeping in shelter each night. About 95% of these families in shelter identify as Black or Latine. A gift of $25,000 or more could support our efforts to end family homelessness by advancing policies that quickly connect families to eviction prevention, rent subsidies, and permanent, affordable housing with wraparound supports.
Expand Access to Child Care and Universal Pre-Kindergarten: Over 80% of families in New York City cannot afford care for young children under 5, and women are 2 ½ times more likely to cite child care as the reason for being out of work. A gift of $15,000 or more could help us continue our advocacy efforts to achieve year-round, full workday early care and education which would significantly increase economic security for every family and the school readiness of every child in NYC.
Invest in Youth Opportunity: In 2023, despite dramatic expansion of programming in New York City, 45,000 youth applied to NYC’s Summer Rising program and did not get a seat. Children need access to youth development opportunities, and the high demand is clear. A gift of $10,000 or more could help support our efforts to advocate for year-round youth opportunities, including arts, sports, educational and skill building programs that support social-emotional development and educational success.
Reduce Child Welfare Involvement: More than 70% of child welfare investigations involve neglect, in many cases reflecting economic precarity as caretakers struggle to access basic needs for food, clothing, housing, education or medical care. A gift of $5,000 or more could help us advocate to reduce risks factors and better connect families to social safety net supports that promote stability and well-being and reduce child welfare involvement.
Invest in Early Intervention Services: Less than half of NYC children deemed eligible receive Early Intervention services on time, and service delays are having a disproportionate impact on Black and Latine children. A gift of $2,500 or more could help us improve timely access to services and ensure children’s developmental needs are met and their learning, play and growth sets them up for future successes.
A gift of any amount will support our expert public policy advocacy, our research and award winning data products, and civic engagement -- enabling us to continue our fight to ensure that every child is healthy, housed, educated and safe.
